Scrap metal prices increase crime threat
With significant quantities of untraceable stock on-site, much of it possibly in sight, in open yards, builders’ merchants have always been popular targets for certain criminal elements. And in recent years, metal theft, due to rising scrap metal prices, particularly copper, has significantly increased the crime threat to builders’ and plumbers’ merchants’.
In mid-2011 larger merchant chains and DIY ‘sheds’ formed a DIY and Building Trade Loss Prevention Forum to share ideas and combat crime at their sites.
Security for builders' merchants and plumbers' merchants
Guard Tec supports builders’ merchants and plumbers’ merchants with security systems to protect sites, in and out of business hours: from the perimeter and vehicle/pedestrian access points through to secure internal areas where the highest value stock should be kept.
Alarm systems, CCTV surveillance and recording, and door and barrier access control for authorised users can all have a role play across the different risk elements that exist at a merchant’s site. Remote monitoring may be essential and, increasingly, systems can directly contact key personnel via mobile devices to give access to incident status and even video images.
Security fog protection for copper and lead stocks
Additionally, specially with respect to high value warehoused stock, including copper and lead, our Protect Fog Cannon offers a unique, rapid alarm/deterrent response to any robbery attempt at a large or small premises. Thieves are most likely to be driven out empty-handed because they can’t see what they came to steal!
